The Island of Sri Lanka, located close to the equator with a rich biodiversity and natural habitats is a paradise not only to the Birds that are endemic to Sri Lanka but also to the migrant Birds. About 400 species of Birds both endemic and migrant can be found in this Birds’ paradise of Sri Lanka. Many varieties of migrant Birds can be seen during the Winter Season nesting to hatch their young ones and fly away with them when the summer approaches, only to return to their usual nesting Grounds again in the next Winter, year after year. There are many places in the Island for bird watching and Sri Lanka is one of the best places in the World for Bird Watchers.

  • As its name denotes, this beautiful location is centred around a bay situated on the Indian Ocean in the dry zone of Sri Lanka's southeast coast.
  • Hambantota is the chief town in Hambantota District, belonging to the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It covers a square area of 2593 km.
  • Kithulgala is a town situated 86 km off Colombo, in the west of Sri Lanka. It is in the wet zone rain forest that receives two monsoons every year, and is one of the wettest places in the country.
  • Negombo is situated 39 km north of Colombo and 3 km off the Bandaranayake International Airport Katunayake.
  • Yala hosts the second largest and most visited national park situated 300 km (190 mi) away from Colombo in the southeast region, lying in Southern Province and Uva Province of Sri Lanka.
