Katunayake is a suburb of Negombo city located in Western Province, Sri Lanka. The Bandaranaike International Airport or Colombo Airport, the primary international air gateway to Sri Lanka is situated here. It is known for having one of the largest free trade zones (currently known as the Export Promotion Zone) that has provided a very large number of job opportunities for the local youth and has contributed substantially towards the country's economy.
The country’s national airline, SriLankan Airlines is headquartered on the grounds of the airport in Katunayake.
It has a train service provided by Sri Lanka Railways' Puttalam Line, with stations at Katunayake, Katunayake South, and the airport.
Katunayake is the northern end of the Colombo-Katunayake Express super highway. This highway connects the city of Colombo and A1 highway at Peliyagoda. The old A3 highway provides vehicular transportaion from Colombo to Negombo besides the new Express highway.
